How to download YouTube subtitles (SRT, VTT, TXT)
Download the captions of a YouTube video as a subtitle file with timing or as plain text.
Updated
Pick the right format
SRT is the most widely supported subtitle format. VTT is the web standard for HTML5 players. TXT is plain text without timing, and Markdown keeps clickable timestamps for notes.
Download subtitles step by step
Use the subtitle downloader with any video that has captions.
- Paste the YouTube link and choose Get subtitles.
- Choose a caption language — or translate the transcript.
- Open Download and pick SRT, VTT, TXT or Markdown.
Edit before you export
Turn on Edit to fix a misheard word or remove a sponsored segment. The downloaded file includes your changes and keeps the original timing for everything else.
Respect the creator
Captions belong to the video’s creator. Personal study, accessibility and research are common uses; republishing captions may require permission. Link back to the original video.
